Slovakia's two main cities are Bratislava in the west and Koice in the east. You'd think that a country would want to have a decent road linking the two but, according to a spin put out by Most-Hid, a political pressure group, Slovakia's toll charges force transport to go into Hungary from Bratislava, travel along the Hungarian motorway and pop back out again at Koice. The difference in costs is not insignificant; 75 via Slovakia or 60 via Hungary. Of course, there's more to transport costs than toll charges how much fuel is used on the two routes? There's another hidden disadvantage to toll charges; many drivers will opt to stay off the main routes and go via minor roads which, of course, is deleterious to the quality of life in villages along the minor roads. Many of these villages were designed around horse transport and simply cannot cope with 40 tonne lorries thundering along the streets: houses crumble; pedestrians take their life in their hands; noise blights the peace and quiet of rural life.Home / Business // Search // Submissions
