More floods in Slovakia

It's deja vu as Slovakia suffers more floods. No sooner has the country cleaned up after the floods in May than Central Europe has been drenched again. Towns across south eastern Poland, the Czech Republic, north eastern Hungary and eastern Slovakia have been flooded again. Parts of towns as far apart as Bardejov, Prešov and Lucenec have had to be evacuated as rain pouring down on the Tatras Mountains caused rivers to flood. And indeed, many reports said that there was flooding even where were no rivers; the run off from fields and hills had nowhere to go but onto roads and into villages.

There are stories all over the internet about this current bout of flooding but it's surprisingly difficult to pick up a succinct report.

All lovers of Slovakia who ask themselves "how can we help?" should know the answer is not simply to send donations but to go and visit. Towns like Bardejov and Poprad need visitors, so that's what to do - go there. Look at the weather forecast for Slovakia today (5th June); it's bathed in sunshine with only the occasional light puffy cloud.
